WELCOME…
Dear families and visitors to the website,
We wish you a very warm welcome to our website and hope you find the information that you need. Please read on to allow me, as Headteacher, to introduce you to the school that I am proud to lead.
I am Ayellet McDonnell, the headteacher of Ermine Street Church Academy. I continue to develop, strengthen and improve the teaching and learning provision at Ermine Street Church Academy and you can find more information in our Vision and Ethos Statements and Teaching and Learning Policy on the website.
The school building is part of a rapidly growing community in Alconbury Weald. To celebrate the historic legacy of the site, the building has been built in the shape of an aircraft propeller. At its centre is the hall, the heart of the school and wider community. As a church school, we hold a whole school daily Collective Worship where our Christian ethos is shared, we celebrate our individual and collective successes and take time to reflect on our spiritual wellbeing, how we can be our best selves and how we can serve others.
“TO BE ROOTED AND ESTABLISHED IN GOD’S LOVE” EPHESIANS 3:17; “BEARING FRUIT IN ALL SEASONS” JEREMIAH 17:8.
As a Christian school, we promote the teachings of Christ and strive to ensure that our curriculum and staff nurture and support the social, moral, spiritual and cultural needs of the pupils through our ethos and are proud of the caring, conscientious and generosity of kindness shown by our staff and children in school. Visitors often remark on the manners and respect shown by our school community and really enjoy the warmth that permeates its learning environment.
At Ermine Street Church Academy, it is vital that all children are welcomed, supported and respected regardless of their status, financial background, ethnicity, abilities, religion or gender. We strive to never compromise the safety and wellbeing of our pupils and have the very highest expectations of our staff that pupils will feel listened to and understand how highly we value all children’s entitlement to an excellent education.
“I HAVE COME IN ORDER THAT YOU MIGHT HAVE LIFE - LIFE IN ALL ITS FULLNESS.” JOHN 10:10
Your child’s journey with us will see their uniqueness and interests valued and stimulated through the lens of a knowledge-rich curriculum delivered by educators using research informed practice. All pupils will be supported to achieve the expectations of the curriculum with collaboration with families to ensure that children are confident and prepared for their next step forward in their learning at Secondary School. We are passionate about developing independent thinkers, courageous advocates for change, confident leaders and orators that do not shy away from their aspirations, but rather embrace challenge and feel confident in their own abilities.
If you wish to visit our fantastic school, please contact the school office.

To be rooted and established in God’s Love (Eph 3:17); bearing fruit in all seasons (Jer 17:8).
As a primary school living out a Christian Vision, we prioritise spiritual wellbeing and the Christian values of excellence, service, compassion, and advocacy. These values permeate and drive the curriculum agenda from a spiritual perspective, while the powerful knowledge, skills and wisdom developed through the content and rigour of the curriculum enables pupils’ academic progress.
In the Methodist Family of Schools there are 81 schools. 65 are maintained primary schools, 26 of which are ‘Methodist only’ schools, the others are partnership schools with the Church of England.
Methodist Schools are inclusive and unpretentious communities where individuals are valued, good order is respected, relationships cherished, and where excellence in its widest sense (academic, extra-curricular, lifestyle) is pursued for children of all faiths and none.
Methodist Schools encourage a sense of belonging, seek to improve lives and boldly expect the impossible. In Methodist Schools, educational experiences and activities bring mind and heart, intellect and passion together. Methodist Schools work in mutually beneficial partnerships with each other and the wider Methodist Church.
The Methodist Church is represented on our Local Governing Body and members of the local congregation regularly contribute to many aspects of school life, including Collective Worship.
